Lebanon

On November 10th, 2005, Scott Burns and I flew to Beirut to run the Beirut International Marathon. While we were there, we explored the city and nearby towns a bit. The marathon was well organized and we were pleased with our times (3:57 for me). Lebanese people are very friendly and Beirut has a very Mediterranean feel to it.

Lebanon has great wine! These are the storage caves of the Kasaro winery, used since Roman times.

Just after finishing the marathon downtown Beirut.

The ex-Holiday Inn is a very visible reminder of the recent civil war.
The fantastic ruins of Baalbek, the "Sun City" of the Roman Empire. These columns are supposedly the biggest in the world.

Passing the afternoon in the ancient and scenic port of Byblos.
