Vietnam
May 2002

For this year's May Day vacation (one week), we flew to Saigon. In 1995 we had travelled overland from Saigon to Hanoi, so it was interesting to see how Vietnam had changed and we also were able to check out the Mekong Delta, which we had never been to. We met our friends Theo and Natalie, who taught with us in the Oakland area, and who are currently doing a year of travelling. It was great to see old friends!

This was one of the many floating markets in the Mekong Delta. We were pleasantly surprised to find floating markets to be very common and almost completely void of tourists. Most of the Vietnamese we encountered were very friendly.

One of the boats plying the islands of the Mekong. This one pulled up to a house on stilts over the river that we were staying at.

The American War Crimes museum in Saigon - a very hard hitting museum. We had a good time running with the Saigon Hash House Harriers.

We spent lots of time drinking beers and playing games in cafes with Theo and Natalie. Exploring the expat strip of bars in Saigon.
