[March 2018] For Spring Break we flew to Lamu with friends. We stayed for a night then took a 2 hour boat ride north to the remote island of Kiwayu. Kiwayu has virtually no tourists, but is spectacularly remote and beautiful. We stayed at the beautiful ‘BaoBab Camp’. There is only one other camp on the island, but both are usually empty. We spent 5 days fishing playing on the beach, in the water and on the game table. Beautiful!

The magnificent beach and cove of Main Camp.

A lobster dinner at the deserted ‘Main Camp’ at Kiwayu.

$580 worth of beer to bring from Lamu to Kiwayu – there is no local store there!

This was lunch one day when Zoe caught the only fish of the day.

Payan’s beautiful boat that he recently completed building. Two years in the making!

Zoë fished most days with the boys while I hung out on the beach with the women! 🙂

Can’t quite reach something in the fishing pole box.

It was a struggle to get Robyn up and down the steep hill of sand. Eventually we built a chair lift.

Our huts.

Lots of Banana Grams on Kiwayu!

Our house beach on Kiwayu.

Our tents/huts on the hill at Bao Bab Camp on Kiwayu. The Kayaks were fun to play with.

Mostly we were catching and releasing, but this huge GT got caught up in our lines, so we gave it to the neighboring village.

The deck of our tent, in a huge BaoBab tree.

Our beach day trip near Somalia.

Rugged and deserted coastline near Somalia.

A day trip to a beach 25kms from Somalia, a beautiful beach and journey.

Filleting the days catch of Tuna.

More games.

Manazi Moja, where we stayed in Lamu.

Mouse and Tanya organized an Easter Egg hunt.

Inspecting the construction of a plastic dhow in Lamu. Those beams are all compressed plastic.

Lots of games. Zoe checking to make sure Jack doesn’t cheat in Taboo.

We ate amazing fresh seafood every day of our 10 day trip. This night was shrimp pasta.

Manazi Moja- Mouses’ (Family) house south of Lamu.
