Turkana, Mara, Beach

[July 2020] Travel out of Nairobi was restricted from April to June due to the Corona Virus. When the travel ban lifted in early July, we were keen to travel! We planned three trips, one to Turkana and the north of Kenya, one to the Masai Mara and the final one to the coast.

In the north, we visited Samburu, South Horr (Koros Camp), Namanyuk Conservancy (Sarara), Malako Bandas and Il Ngwesi (next to Lewa).

Except for our last stop in Il Ngwesi, we were always the first tourists each place had seen since the lockdown had started in March.

After our Northern Trip and a couple of days in Nairobi, we headed to the Maasai Mara, where we camped for 10 days right on the Mara River. We were happy to see some excellent crossings and lots of wildlife. The unfortunate Corona virus situation meant that some days and crossings had very few tourists.

For our 3rd and final trip of the summer, we drove back and forth from the coast, stopping in Tsavo West both directions. We stayed in Kitani Bandas on the way down (new for us) and the Kamboyo House on the way back. In between we spent 12 days at the Samawati House in Msambweni Village south of Diani.  Both were new to us and we enjoyed them very much.  Msawmbweni is very quiet and Samawati ticks all the boxes – nice, on the beach, pool, quiet.
