[September 2022] We used our mid-semester break to explore Buenos Aires via a quick and direct flight. We were charmed by the different neighborhoods and had fun exploring the parks, museums and restaurants. We spent 4 days in the neighborhood of XXXX and then went to Uruguay (just across the river!) for 3 days including two in Montevideo and one in Colonia de Sacremento (I share Zoë’s passion for checking countries off our list!). We returned to Buenos Aires for a couple nights before returning to Santiago.

Tomb of an ex-president of Argentina. Robyn had his relative in class last year.

Recoleta cemetery, a city of the dead where the rich and famous are buried in Argentina.

I had fun exploring while running in downtown Buenos Aires.

On ferry’s in the delta around Tigre. It was a challenge getting Robyn on and off these (but we did it!).

A fun and well presented museum in the San Telmo district. This house and it’s basement contained structures related to several different periods of the last several hundred years.

I love public transport. It’s always an adventure getting around with Robyn. In this case, we used an escalator to get out of a metro station with no elevator.

Plaza Mayo, the central square of the Buenos Aires. ‘Casa Rosada’ is in the background, scene of many speeches in the past, including those of Evita Peron.

Central Square of Montevideo, Uruguay.

The Andes Plane Crash museum in Montevideo, which relates the incredible and fascinating story told in the movie ‘Alive’. (16 out of 40+ people survived a plane crash and managed to survive at 10,000ft+ for 70 days in the winter.). The museum owner is personal friends with many of the people who were on the plane, so his explanations were amazing.

A popular Tango club in downtown Montevideo.

Relaxing in a park in Colonia del Sacremento, an old colonial town in Uruguay.

We used buses a lot in Buenos Aires.

Colorful La Boca neighborhood in Buenos Aires.

This famous bookstore in Buenos Aires is in an old theater.

A 104ft mechanical flower that opens and then closes each day.

Flying back over the Andes to Santiago. I’m glad we didn’t crash!
